The Ultimate Guide To Fashion
Published 15-04-2008
I recently invested in some new gym kit. It was about time – I’d been using the same pair of tracksuit bottoms (purchased in South Beach circa 2001) for so long that they were beginning to wear through on the bum. Not a good look when you’re really going for it on the cross-trainer.So I’m now the proud owner of a “proper” pair of Adidas running shoes (the kind that would make you look like an American tourist should you wear them with chinos and a body-warmer), some hi-performance leggings (supposed to have built-in support for your calf muscles or something) and even a turquoise blue wind-sheeter thing. Overall, the look isn’t exactly one you’d expect to find the word “sexy” anywhere in the vicinity of. But something – something – about it works.
Perhaps it’s simply because it’s all new, and all new clothes make you feel a little bit like you’ve just won the lottery, or maybe it’s that it symbolises my commitment to achieving the body beautiful (which is never actually going to happen, let’s be real), but I feel good in my training togs. Dare I even say, sexy?
I like the way the leggings do their clinging thing to my calves, and as for the shoes – I haven’t felt this bouncy since I was about five. And the husband’s opinion? Any new look is a good look as far as he’s concerned. He’s got fashion wife, he’s got high-powered wife, and he’s got baggy-jeans-around-the-house wife. Now he can add gym bunny wife to the list.
