It barely turns Nov 1st before we are bombarded with the horror that is Christmas. The snow-flake covered marketing becomes continually more terrifying every year, the scourge of the advertising world unleashing their campaigns on the dribbling bug-eyed kids staring lustfully at the idiot box.'Bah humbug!' we here you cry. Well you know what? You lot are just as bad when it comes to succumbing to the advertiser's claws. During the lead up to the Big Day, we, as a society, become suckered into spending insane amounts of money - which we don't have - on gifts for friends and family, the majority of whom usually try and take them back for a refund.
Every year the pressure is on. Christmas Day has become the most important date in the Economy, the spending spree counting for breaking the entire year's profit margin. What was once a very special day when Jesus was born has become a splurge in the financial calendar. But as the pressure builds up we all become misty-eyed and nostalgic in some warped way of reclaiming the magic of our childhood.
And there we are, rushing down Oxford Street on Christmas Eve sweating with angst, grabbing bag loads of totally inappropriate presents for people we don't really like.
So, with season cheer, we wish you all a very merry Christmas.
