Single of the week
George Demure - 'My Baby's Gone' (Tirk/August Day)
The suave king of electro-croon finally releases the soon-to-be classic, 'My Baby's Gone'. With more charisma than Tom Jones at an Anne Summer's party, George tickles those ivories and plucks those strings - the result being somewhere between Gram Parsons and the B52s with electrobes shoved up their arse. Perfect pop fodder. The video's pretty awesome, too.
DOVE CHOICE
Best of the rest: Hot Chip 'Shake A Fist' (EMI), Joy Division 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' (London), Faze Action 'Disco Warrior' (Faze Action), Toby Tobias 'Steel Bells' (Tiny Sticks), DJ T - The Dawn Remixes (Get Physical)
Album of the week
I Hate Music - A Compilation Of Output Recordings 1996 - 2006 (Output)
One of the world's most loved and hated record labels celebrates its demise by releasing the best of its roster over a double CD package, with a bonus DVD of videos. This label was loved for the talented artists it signed over a decade, but much like other labels of its philisophical ilk - namely Factory - Output was brilliant discovering and engaging the talent, but crap at dishing out artist royalties and decent advances.
But that's boring. What you want to hear about is how bands like Gramme shook the dance world with their edgy post-punk personas; how pint-size Japanese freakbox Mu left clubs and venues quaking in her aftermath; how Colder were one of the most simplistic electronic bands to have injected a sublime freshness back into music; and how the artwork inspired a whole new generation of graphic designers. I hate music? Give over.
STAG CHOICE
Best of the rest: The Go! Team - Proof Of Youth (Memphis Industries), Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Backyard), Fabric 35 - Ewan Pearson (Fabric), The A-Z of Bestival (Sunday Best), Modeselektor - Happy Birthday (BPitch Control)

1 - DJ Pierre - 'Generate Power' (Strictly Rhythm)
This track brings back memories of arriving in Las Vegas - when I was DJing across America - at 2am with a car full of good friends with this belting out of the stereo.
'Generate Power' is one of those all time great club records that still gets me in the gut with its relentless groove. It's the perfect soundtrack to the neon madness of Las Vegas.
2 - Prince - 'Controversy' (Warner)
This track is packed energy and sexiness which typifies Prince's music.
'Controversy' came out in the late 80s where the main was on fire. As much as I loved the birth of the acid house scene there was something very freespirited and more personal about the programming of music back then - very inspiring to me when I was starting out in music.
Without artists like Prince I wouldn't be making music today.
3 - 'Talk To Her' soundtrack by Alberto Iglesias (Milan Records)
I'm a big fan of soundtracks, which can surprise people.
I speak very little Spanish but even without knowing the language you can sense the emotion that's there - as in all of Almodovar’s work. It’s a beautiful film where the music tugs at my heart strings.
4 - Michael Jackson 'Thriller' (Sony/BMG)
What a pairing Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones were. Should have been called 'Killer' not 'Thriller'.
'Thriller' does exactly what it says on the tin. Thrills from start to end. I remember seeing the video when it was aired on music show The Tube - it was a massive occasion. The bassline makes you want to get up and take the nightlife world by storm - which I did!
5 - John Martyn - 'Couldn't Love You More' (Island)
John Martyn is an unsung hero - he always wrote such incredible lyrics. 'Couldn't Love You More' is a track I have shared with my lovely wife on many a long car journey. He had a great voice and created an atmosphere that inspired many an emotional journey for me.
