Single of the week

Robyn - 'Who's That Girl' (Island)

robynSwedish pop icon Robyn is back again with a new single, produced by fellow Swedes, The Knife.

On first listening 'Who's That Girl' is so sugary-coated it makes you feel a bit sick, but after the first initial wave of nausea has passed, you can actually appreciate it for what it is - the perfect pop record. No pretenses - it does what it says on the tin.

Dove choice

Best of the rest:

Ashley Beedle 'Dance And Shake Your Tambourine' (Disco Deviance) - Two stunning edits from Mr Beedle.

Diskjokke 'Floot Flyt' (Full Pupp) - One to watch for 2008!

Radio Slave 'No Sleep, Part Four' (Rekids) - No rest for Brighton's finest.

Album of the week

Hercules & The Love Affair - 'Hercules & The Love Affair' (DFA)

herculesIf you haven't heard of Hercules & The Love Affair by now, then you need a slap in the face with a pair of Boy George's soggy knickers. This debut album is fast-becoming one of the most celebrated albums of the year, and it's only March.

Vintage disco and house-y cuts come courtesy of New York dance music hero Andrew Butler with a little help from the impressive Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons fame.

The single, 'Blind', has Paradise Garage dance-floor action written all over it with the prerequisite baseline and disco claps. But then comes the addictive slutty grooves of 'Hercules Theme' and, if it can't get any better, other stand out tracks such as dirty hip wigglers 'Athene' and 'Raise Me Up'.

The must-have album of 2008.

Stag Choice

Best of the rest:

The Bang Bang Deejays 'Light Sound Dance' (Modular) - Australia's latest hot dance floor additions.

fuck buttons

Fuck Buttons 'Street Horrrsing' (ATP) - Buy this even if it's just for the band name.

Kelley Polar - I Need You To Hold On While the Sky Is Falling' (Environ)
- Flowery yet alluring second album.
