Single of the week
Syclops 'Where's Jason's K?' (DFA)
Maurice Fulton returns under his Syclops moniker for New York's prestigious DFA Records.
The mysterious talent from Baltimore (now living in Sheffield), who was once a dancer in John Water's 'Hairspray', turns out a wobbly electro house gem that bounces about all over the dancefloor like a wayward wave apoplectic marbles.
Stag choice
Best of the rest:
Jerome Sydenham and Tiger Stripes - 'Elevation and F12 remixes' (Ibadan) Ibadan returns with another soulful house classic.
White Stripes - 'Conquest' (XL) The brother/sister duo are back!
Crystal Castles - 'Air War' (Trouble Records) The ones to watch for 2008.
Album of the week
MANDY 'Fabric 38' (Fabric)
Fabric are leaping from strength-to-strength with not only their compilation series, but also the new plans to turn the O2 arena into the world's biggest superclub - if that's what floats your boat, of course.
Some of us prefer the comfort of home - house parties are back, didn't you know? - which makes this CD series the perfect accompaniment.
Berliners MANDY of Get Physical imprint fame are Fabric favourites and notorious party duo (lock up your daughters, no joke), and for 'Fabric 38' they have selected 25 tracks showcasing a plethora of quality tracks from across the dance music spectrum.
Expect magic moments from Yello, Audion, Dubfire, Quarian and Sebo K all mixed with the genuine talent that has made MANDY the most prolific remixers, producers and DJs in the world.
Dove Choice
Best of the rest:
Burial - 'Untrue' (Hyperdub) The mysterious king of dubstep and soon to be Mercury Prize nominee?
DJ Hell - 'Hellboys' (Deejay Gigolos)
Joe Claussell - 'Unchained' (Sacred Rhythm Music) This afro-soul-house old-timer is back once more.
Events for your diary:
Horse Meat Disco
Sundays. £6. 8pm-3am.
The Eagle, 349 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5QY
Horse Meat Disco is one of the most popular club nights in the gay calendar, and not just because of the handsome growling bears that the gaff is busting over with. HMD prides itself in its quality disco music policy, played by residents Jim Stanton, James Hillard and Severino, as well as an array of enviable guests from around the globe, such as Berlin's Daniel Wang and New York's Rub-N-Tug.
No surprise, then, that you will be able to spot a scattering of discerning disco-loving Fag Stags on the dancefloor, too. Girls, don't think you won't be able to pull.
Look out for HMD special events this summer at festivals such as Glastonbury and Love Box.
