Single of the week

Supergrass - 'Diamond Hoo Ha Man' (EMI)

supergrassGaz and the boys are back with their apparently much-awaited new single - a taster off the new sixth album to be released in March.

'DHHM' was given a debut airing when the band supported personal fans, the Artic
Monkeys. Expect wide-eyed vocals, bombastic bassline and frenetic guitars, and if you're quick, you can download the live version for free on www.supergrass.com.

Dove choice

Best of the rest:

Gavin Herhily - 'Opium Haze' (Kindisch)
Dance music journo turned
prolific producer.

Common - 'Drivin' Me Wild' (Geffen) Hip hop hero does what he does
best.

Amy Winehouse - 'Love Is A Losing Game' (Island) Amy gets the dub step treatment with these killer mixes.

Album of the week

Various - 'Disco Not Disco' (Strut/K7!)

discoAnd from the ashes of disco did Strut rise once again.

Yes, it's true. All you die-hard fans out there can wipe the sweat from your brow and hold down that semi-on with the glorious news that Strut Records has been re-born, with a little help from German imprint K7!

'Disco Not Disco' is a compilation inspired by the original memorable series which witnessed two releases at the turn of the new decade. Now it's back, with a tracklisting that still encapsulates the sounds of post-punk, electro and disco which has inspired a whole new generation of music makers.

Without the musical gems pioneered by Disco Not Disco, we wouldn't have the Rapture or LCD Sound System.

This new edition embraces Detroit machine music and Belgian new beat,
with tracks like Quando Quango's 'Love Tempo', Kazino's 'Binary',
Isotope's 'Crunch Cake' and Delta 5's 'Mind Your Own Business'.

And it comes in a super swish package too, with liner notes from Bill Brewster and an extensive collection of rare photos.

Stag Choice

Best of the rest:

British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? (Rough Trade) BSP are back at last with their usual charm.

Adele - 19 (XL) She may be 19, but hell, has this girl got some lungs
on her. Move over Amy Winerack.

Black Mountain - In The Future (Jagjaguwar) Psyche-rock from this
Canadian collective.

MUSIC TO... END A LONG WEEKEND BY

ghostTrip hop and electro upstart Ghost is fast-becoming a serious player in
the remix world, having recently remixed Bonobo and Nicole Willis. Here
he shares with us the music that he likes to end a long weekend by.

1. J live – 'A Charmed Life'
Produced by A Touch Of Jazz, this was the hip hop track that all my non
hip hop friends always requested I play. It’s beautifully melodic with
a strong jazz feel, but the kind of sound that makes you think
positively and with reflection.

J Live kicks rhymes about growing up and general life experiences in a way all people seem to relate to, including me.

2. Cinematic Orchestra – 'Burn Out'
cinematicIt's hard to pick a single track off this album it’s so good, but this is a highlight for me. Musically it puts you into that late Sunday afternoon vibe, when hopefully the sun is out for maximum impact.

This is the tune you bring out when you have nothing to do, say or think.

3. Donald Byrd – 'Think Twice'

This is such a great tune.

I re-discovered this gem recently by accident whilst tidying up after a party. There're some proper good feelings here, the more upbeat vibe just pulls you into a good mood. Lovely.

4. Slum Village - 'Reunion'

I’ve been a fan of Slum Village for a long time, and this one's another seriously heavyweight track from Detroit’s finest exponents, featuring the late great J Dilla.

Once again I was tidying up once again (not that I'm obsessed) and found this record which I thought was lost forever. I take it everywhere I go now. It’s uplifting and thoughtful all rolled into one.

5. Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators – 'Invisible Man Simbad remix'

This recently became a firm favourite. It’s got a dubstep kick to feel
like you still have some life left in you, but with a deep soulful
groove and sound to give it serious depth. It changes shape constantly
with sounds pouring in from all angles. Maybe the weekend should continue after all…
