Single of the week
LCD Soundsystem - 45.33 (DFA)
The hottest collection of tracks to come out this year by far is this
bespoke Nike running mix by New York giants LCD Soundsystem.
Having done the rounds since the summer, this epic 9 track, 45 minute, 33 second (get it?) collection is wooing discerning muso fans across the globe. Starting off with a downtempo disco groove, the bassline borrowed from Odyssey's 'Going Back To My Roots', the tracks gather strength and take you that buzzing special place when you hit that runner's high.
Trust us, with music like this there're no excuses - Staganddove just gave this a road test around the East River Park on the Lower East Side and it was nothing short of spectacular.
DOVE CHOICE
Best of the rest:
Solid Groove - 'This Is Sick' (Front Room) - Fidget house at its finest.
Larry Heard - 'Mr White EP' (Alleviated Records) - Mr Fingers gets those digits tapping.
Big Face - 'I Wanna Be A Style' (Kitsune) - Northern dance wonders strike gold.
Album of the week
James Murphy & Pat Mahoney - 'Fabric Live 36' (Fabric)
Seeing as this is a New York special, we are going to feature this
compilation by this week's faves, LCD Soundsytem's James and Pat.
With the release of '45.33' already hurling them into flavour flav, this CD from London's most successful club has once again assured them at the forefront of the dance music game.
Staying true to their New York roots, this compilation is full of disco gems, from both the old and new schools. Classics like Instant Funk's 'I Got My Mind Made Up' and the Peech Boys'Life Is Something Special' through to contributions by quirky modern day disco heroes Daniel Wang with 'Like Some Dream' and their own LCD Soundsystem gem 'Hippie Priest Burn Out'.
To be frank this album will be lost on the youngsters getting wasted to minimal techno on the dance floor at Fabric, but for the older dance music lovers amongst us who are familiar with stories of New York's Larry Levan and his disco party Paradise Garage and Francois K's Sunday afternoon sessions Body & Soul, this CD will be a nostalgic reminder.
STAG CHOICE
Best of the rest:
Sven Vath - 'Sound of the Eighth Season' (Cocoon) - Exclusive Ibiza sessions from the world's finest.
Keb Darge - 'Keb Darge Digs For P&P' (Suss'd) - The kind of rare funk and Philly soul is back.
Luciano - 'Luciano Live @ Weetamix) (Max Ernst Records) - A live set from 2002 for all you trainspotters out there.

New clubs in New York lose their hip flavour after a couple of months, but this intimate spot on the Lower East Side is still enticing the scenesters in every week. With a rotating DJ roster that features James Murphy of LCD Sound System, the 205 Club can't really put a heeled foot wrong.
One of the strongest residencies is every Friday night with local French DJ Max Pask, tour DJ for the Rapture. Max Pask ropes in his friends for the night and basically sets the place on fire with their underground electronic meanderings and disco classics.
