TV
Heroes - BBC2 (Wednesdays, 9pm)
This new(ish) sci-fi series seems to be going on longer than '24' and 'Lost' put together - moving on in narrative at the speed of a snail on Ketamine. 'Heroes' is, on paper, one of those programs that screams out to be the next 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' in addictive value. But, despite the cool post-production and quirky story-lines, there's a definite lack of humour and pace that is sorely needed.
If you've the patience, stick with it, otherwise we suggest dusting off those Buffy DVDs and giving them another whirl.
STAG CHOICE
Film
Knocked Up (15, Director Judd Apatow)
If you enjoy easily digestible yet entertaining film fodder, then this movie is for you.
On initial encounter one might think this could be as painful as 'Waiting' or 'American Pie' (the worst movies of this genre ever, ever made). However, in truth 'Knocked Up' is leaps and bounds ahead - which, after the aforementioned - isn't that hard. And, after all, cast Steve Carell into anything and it would be god.
From the makers of the low brow smash '40 Year Old Virgin','Knocked Up' marries fratboy toilet humour with smart insights into the complex workings of relationships, with quite hilarious results.
Perhaps worth waiting 'til it comes out on DVD...

'The Lost In The Drive' EP is out now on Uptown Safari Records.
1.Blazing Saddle’s (1974)
'Blazing Saddles' is written by Mel Brooks and the legendary comedian Richard Pryor. Gene Wilder plays a recovering alcoholic gunslinger. The story-line was based on racial tension during America’s post civil war era.
Richard Pryor should have played the lead role but was pushed aside due to his cocaine addiction. For a man who made me cry with laughter his real life was totally depressing!
2. Kingpin (1996)
Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray star in this classic ten-pin bowling spoof, aptly entitled 'Kingpin'.
If you thought the dude in 'The Big Lebowski' was legendary, wait until you check this geezer out! The one-handed Roy Munson - played by an incredible Harrelson - knocked me down with the giggles good and proper.
3. Evil Dead 2 (1987)
This movie was produced by a supermarket boss and was supposed to be a low budget horror flick. Little did this guy know it was going to turn out to be a hilarious comedy and a global classic.
Leading actor Bruce Campbell should've been nominated for an Oscar - he's something else entirely. More awesome than gruesome…
4. Anchorman (2004)
This film is Will Ferrell’s - the most hilarious man in Hollywood - finest hour.
'Anchorman' is a ridiculous film. based on a San Diego TV news station, it shot Ferrell into the Hollywood orbit - and beyond. His costar 'Tits Magee' (classic, right?) used to be the daughter of Al Bundy in the US sitcom series ‘Married With Children’. Total side-splitting fun!
5. Sideways (2004)
Teacher Paul Giamatti plays a best man on the verge of a midlife crisis. Travelling to California’s vineyards on his best mate Thomas Haden's stag weekend, he find’s himself not only getting into deep vino but hot water too!
This movie is a great reminder that sometimes you have to laugh at yourself when you're having a personal crisis! It works for me!
