My Name Is Earl - Channel 4 (Thursdays, 10pm)

The second season of the great US hit comedy export My Name Is Earl is underway, and as captivating as usual. But one can't help but wonder how long they can string the karma plot out for. The oddest thing to get one's head around is the show's link to Scientology. It has been alleged that all the cast and creators are all a bunch of weirdos all batting for the same side as Tom Cruise and John Travolta. Watch with caution...

FILM

The Chumscrubber (2006)

Showing again at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, London, this US classic dark comedy sheds insight on the lives of people who live in the Upper Class societies of the American suburban world. In typical teenage angst - yes, even for the rich kids, they get it worse it seems, boo hoo - the movie's teen hero Dean Stiffle discovers the body of his drug pusher pal hanging by the family's poolside hut. The basic thread to the movie is that rich kids are bored, and take too many drugs (no shit) hence a chase ensues from the local gangsta druggies over the dead kid's missing stash. Teen heart throb Dean becomes involved in a kidnap whilst being off his face, and all the while his parents or any adults whatsoever don't seem to know a thing about it. Curious.
