TV

Grey's Anatomy (Channel 5, Thursdays, 10pm)

greysWe do like a good hospital drama here at staganddove, so there’s a welcomed applause for season 3 of the superb Grey's Anatomy.

This show has got it all: the sex, the drama, and, erm, the sex and the drama. What more could you ask for?

Featuring the stunning cast of Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, T.R Knight, Patrick Demsey and Justin Chambers. Forget the pub, this is where Thursday nights are at from now on.

FILM

Rambo (Sylvester Stallone, 2008)

The machine that is Sylvester Stone continues to amaze even as he approaches his twilight years.

In yet another epic screen smash from the Rambo camp, John Rambo, who has relocated to Thailand for an easy life capturing snakes for local entertainers and playing in his boat, ends up liberating a bunch of villagers in the middle of Burmese war-zone. You know the drill. The most deadliest mission, ever!

FILM TO... KICK BACK TO

lostarLo-Star are the band who brought us the rock smash 'Wake Up', which made single of the week on BBC London and won accolades from all corners of the music press.

For ‘Film To’, Lo-Star's drummer Adam Harris shares with us the films that he would kick back to, for a whole afternoon's marathon movie viewing. So why not join in?

1) This is Spinal Tap (1984, Rob Reiner)

Still the best mockumentary ever made. 'This Is Spinal Tap' is a true musician's film with believable characters, and amazing improvisation around scenes and situations that any real band member can identify with. I know Lo-Star have had our Spinal Tap moments.

And on the top of all this, some great music, parodied to perfection.

Perfect viewing to watch with a bacon sarnie and a cup of tea after a heavy night.

spiritedaway2) Spirited Away (2002, Hayao Miyazaki)

It's hard to choose from all the great Hayao Miyazaki films, but this one has the ability to appeal to the inner child within everyone.

‘Spirited Away’ manages to bring back that memory of waking up early on a Saturday morning to watch cartoons. But at the same time, an appealing story-line, and visually, one of the best films I have ever seen.

A true essence of magic. And quite frankly, it shits on ET.

3) Amelie (2001, Jean-Pierre Jeunet)

‘Amelie' is a film that can turn anyone into a romantic.

I don't think many people realise what cinematography is, but this film boasts some of the best. This is my favourite feel good movie which is a joy to watch whilst on the sofa snuggled up with a loved one.

4) Infernal Affairs (2002, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak)

Recently remade by Scorsese into ‘The Departed’, the original is even better. Strong original plot, high-concept, fully fleshed out characters and precise movie-making - this is a film that can crank up the tension and engross you from beginning to end.

5) Old School (2003, Todd Phillips)

Frank the Tank. That's all I need to say. Oh, and the best rendition of 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' ever. AND Will Ferrel is in it.

I'm gonna have it played at my wedding one day and if I woke up next to Ferrel I wouldn't be complaining.
