Something really shocking has happened since I was last here. The other weekend I I went out in Camden for the first time in ten years, to check out what was happening at the Lock Tavern - I'd heard via mates over in Teddington that there were drunk, up-for-it birds hanging out there - so I fancied my chances.

I usually always go out in the West End or over in Hoxton, so this venture was out of my comfort zone, but I was eager and willing. I've been going through a dry patch, so the thought of nailing a goth chic was that appealing.

I rolled up at the Tavern, spruced and ready for action, and what did I see as soon as I ordered a pint? Two girls behind the decks, playing tunes. I was so shocked I nearly ordered a shandy instead of a Stella. Call me naive, but I have never entertained the concept of girl DJs, ever. And this was the first time I had seen it, first hand. The world of DJing and music is the domain of men, no? Girls are just there to be shagged by us - pretty things hanging off our arms -  certainly not to be any kind of competition.

But what horrified me the most out of this spectacle, was that these two girls were good. Not just good, but fantastic. Their mixing was a bit off, but who cares - the tunes they were dropping was fresh and exciting, they were great-looking, and they had the punters feeding out of the palms of their hands - the place was jumping.

If this is my competition then I am going to have to work a bit harder. Hmmm, I wonder what it would be like to date a girl DJ? That might just be a match made in heaven... She may even be able to teach me a few things.
